The Swans defender will not play for the remainder of the 2018/19 Championship season after undergoing Achilles surgery.

Swansea City are not having the best of times right now.

Relegated from the Premier League last season, they’ve struggled to adapt to life in the Championship and currently sit 12th in the table.

The Swans appear beset by inconsistent form, picking up eight wins but also suffering eight defeats from their 21 games so far.

Now they’ve suffered another setback as the club website confirmed that defender Martin Olsson has been ruled out for the remainder of the season.

The Sweden international ruptured his left Achilles in Saturday’s 3-2 Championship win at Brentford and has had to undergo surgery.

Olsson has played 17 league games for the Welsh club this season and has been a crucial player ever since arriving at the Liberty Stadium from Norwich City in 2017.

His injury is a major defensive headache for Swansea boss Graham Potter, who has just fit one senior left-back – Declan John – at his disposal.

The club’s announcement of Olsson’s injury prompted some fans to take to Twitter and share their thoughts:

Swansea also confirmed that Olsson’s injury is the same as the one that kept Leroy Fer out earlier this year and which sidelined Nathan Dyer last year.
