Swansea drew 2-2 with Chelsea at the Liberty Stadium yesterday.
Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin will be pleased with how his side performed
Swansea City came from behind to secure a deserved point against Chelsea in a dramatic second half that had fans from both teams on the edge of their seats.
Chelsea dominated the first half and Diego Costa put Antonio Conte’s men 1-0 up in the 15th minute. The Swans will be grateful that they managed to hold on and prevent the Blues from scoring more.
In the second half, the Swans looked like a different side. The Welsh team were awarded a penalty in the 59 minute when ‘keeper Thibaut Courtois tripped Gylfi Sigurdsson. The midfielder’s penalty put the Swans level. Leroy Fer scored just two minutes and 10 seconds after Sigurdsson equalised, putting the Welsh team ahead.
Sigurdsson’ penalty put the Swans back in the game
Swansea couldn’t manage to hold onto their lead for too long as Costa scored in the 81st minute. The Spain striker caused constant problems for the Swans.
But Swansea manager Francesco Guidolin should be thrilled with the fight his team showed against an unbeaten Chelsea – something that the Swans have lacked all season. The Welsh side were written off before the game had even started, but the Swans battled hard to secure a point that will give the team confidence going into their next game.
Swansea face a tough couple of weeks with a testing schedule – The Welsh side will travel to Southampton followed by home matches against Manchester City, Liverpool then a visit to Arsenal.
