Declan John hasn’t featured in the Championship for Swansea City this season and a loan move to League One Sunderland could be perfectly timed.

Claims that Declan John is on his way to Sunderland have left Swansea City supporters wondering what might have been.
The Welsh international only signed a three-year deal at the Liberty Stadium in August 2018 but, 12 months and 13 appearances later, the former Rangers defender could be set to bid farewell to life in south Wales already.
According to the Northern Echo, Sunderland are keen to sign John on loan before today’s 5pm transfer deadline. The Black Cats have spent all summer chasing a left-back capable of providing competition for youngster Denver Hume so the one-time Cardiff City and Barnsley flyer certainly fits the bill.

But what can Sunderland expect from John? Well, if you ask Swansea supporters, plenty of attacking intent but a tendency to switch off at the other end.
The seven-cap John slipped out of favour at Swansea with his lack of defensive nous limiting him to just a handful of Championship starts under Graham Potter. Potter’s replacement, Steve Cooper, brought in Jake Bidwell on a free from QPR, paving the way for John’s departure.
But while John is far from the finished article, he will at least fill a void in Jack Ross’ Sunderland squad.
