The 33-year-old midfielder has been with the Swans since 2002, with the exception of the 2010/11 season which he spent with Sheffield United.
He has made 514 appearances for the South Wales club across all competitions. In terms of league matches, he stands sixth in Swansea’s all-time list of appearances.
Having initially joined Swansea on loan from West Ham in December 2002, he helped the club avoid relegation from the Football League on the final day of the season, and has been nigh on ever-present throughout Swansea’s subsequent rise to the Premier League.
Britton left Swansea for the Blades but never settled and returned after one season
Britton himself said of the contract extension that reaching 600 appearances for the club he held so dear is a source of inspiration for him, reports WalesOnline.
He said: “Signing the extension was a very easy decision, like most of my contracts at Swansea have been.
“If you include the loan deals when I first came, I have now signed 13 contracts at Swansea.
“You never know, there might be a 14th. Getting up to 600 appearances for the club might be a big ask, but you have always got to have targets.”

The Swansea City legend’s extension to his time at the Liberty has certainly had a positive reaction from the fans, with the hashtag #LeonLeonLeon is being used so that fans can share Britton’s greatest moments at the club.
Swansea take on Peterborough in the EFL Cup on Tuesday evening at the ABAX Stadium. Britton may not be involved given his advancing years, but it is nonetheless a fillip for the club to retain the services of one of its true legends.
