Paul Clement will be hoping that any signings he makes during his window will break into Swansea City’s top five in future.

As the January transfer window approaches the halfway mark, HITC Sport is taking a look at the top five transfers that Swansea City have made since the start of the Premier League era in 1992…

5. Scott Sinclair

Scott Sinclair

Scott Sinclair was only with Swansea for just over two seasons, but he ensured his place in Swans folklore during his time at the Liberty Stadium. After a brilliant spell in the Championship regular season, he inspired the Swans to promotion with a sensational hat-trick in the play-off final. His form in the Premier League earned him a move to Manchester City, and the £8 million fee (via BBC Sport) saw Swansea make a significant profit on the £500,000 they had initially spent on him (via ESPN).

4. Alan Tate

Alan Tate was one of the Swansea players who helped the club move from the bottom tier to the Premier League. He spent more than a decade on the club’s books before departing in 2015, making over 250 league appearances. His ability to play anywhere in defence as if it was his strongest position was arguably what made him so influential.

3. Garry Monk

Garry Monk

Like Tate, Garry Monk was a defender who played for Swansea in every division. The club’s future manager was captain for much of their journey, leading the team to promotion to the second tier and then to the top flight. He was also a part of the team that won the League Cup in 2013.

2. Angel Rangel

The full-back is currently enjoying his tenth season at the Liberty Stadium, and yet, he is arguably yet to have endured a significant dip in form during that time. He has arguably been one of the most consistent and reliable signings that Swansea have made.

Leon Britton (L) and Garry Monk

Leon Britton has signed for Swansea twice and it is difficult to decide which arrival was more important. Barring one disappointing season with Sheffield United, he has spent his entire professional career with the club making over 450 league appearances. He was part of the team that narrowly avoided relegation from the Football League in 2003, and has gone on to play in every division with the club since.
