Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a move for Swansea City’s Gylfi Sigurdsson.

According to a report in Bleacher Report, Swansea City are demanding £40 million for Gylfi Sigurdsson – and that surely shows why Tottenham Hotspur have not made a bid for the Icelandic international.

Spurs have been linked with Sigurdsson for much of the summer so far in the London Evening Standard, and rumours that he could return to North London heated up this week.

However, Swansea’s high asking price is likely to put him out of Tottenham’s range.

Daniel Levy is known to like to shop on a budget, and Sigurdsson would not fit in with Tottenham’s transfer policy at all.

Sigurdsson has little re-sale value, as he is already 27, and at £40 million he is likely to be deemed overpriced.

Everton are asking for a similar amount of money for Ross Barkley, who is also on Tottenham’s transfer wishlist, according to the Daily Mail, and Pochettino’s side won’t pay that amount of money for the England international.

Barkley is younger than Sigurdsson, and arguably would offer better value for money than the Swansea man.

And if Spurs deem Barkley to be too expensive, then their stance over a deal for Sigurdsson is likely to be similar.
