HITC Sport takes a look at Swansea City’s promotion winning side from the 2010-11 season, and looks at where the Swans’ starting XI are now.
After a terrible start to their Premier League season, and three managers already taking their place in the hot-seat, Swansea City are now battling to keep their place in the Premier League. Struggling for goals and leaky at the back, Swansea currently look a shade on the team that for so many years has impressed and arguably over-achieved in England’s top division, and now face a tough battle to escape the drop.
However, the last time Swansea City were in the Championship, they stormed to a romping 2-4 victory in the Play-Off final against Reading under manager, Brendan Rodgers. HITC Sport takes a look back at the Swans’ promotion winning side, and takes a look at where their starting XI are today.

Dorus de Vries
Joining the Swans in 2007 from Dunfermline Athletic, Dorus de Vries was an extremely reliable and successful keeper for Swansea City, racking up over 180 appearances. The Dutchman has now reunited with then manager Brendan Rodgers in Scotland, at Celtic.
Angel Rangel
The Spanish right-back joined Swansea in 2007 from Terrassa, and has made over 300 appearances for the club. Still a stalwart at the Liberty Stadium, Angel Rangel is still playing his trade with the Swans.
Garry Monk
Garry Monk – Swansea City
Swansea’s captain fantastic, Garry Monk joined the club in 2004 from Barnsley. After 10 happy years with the club, Monk then went on to become Swansea’s manager, turning them into an excellent attacking side. Controversially, Monk was relieved of his duties in 2015, but it is now helping to guide Leeds United back to the Premier League.
Ashley Williams
One of Swansea’s best defenders over the last decade, Ashley Williams spent eight happy years with the Swans. A leader at the back for both his club and country, Williams finally departed the Liberty Stadium in the summer, joining Ronald Koeman’s Everton.
Alan Tate
Joining Swansea permanently in 2004 after a succession of loans, Alan Tate spent 11 years on the Swans’ books. A reliable defender who showed a lot of passion for the club, Tate is now playing his trade at Port Talbot Town.
Joe Allen
Wales’ Joe Allen
Coming through Swansea’s youth academy, the tricky central midfielder made over 120 appearances for the Swans before following manager Brendan Rodgers to Liverpool in 2012. After some incredible performances during Wales’ Euros campaign, Allen moved to Premier League side Stoke City, joining up with Wales legend Mark Hughes. He has so far scored 5 goals in 20 appearances for the Potters.
Leon Britton
Joining Swansea in 2003, Britton made 270 appearances for the Swans before departing for Sheffield United in 2010. However, after just one year, Leon Britton made the move back to the Liberty Stadium, where the midfielder still is. Part of the old guard, Britton is still just as key a player now as he was back in 2009.
Nathan Dyer
Moving to Swansea in 2009, Nathan Dyer added an explosion of pace down the Swans right-hand side, and has made over 240 appearances for the club. After spending the 15/16 Premier League season on loan at Leicester City, Dyer is now back with the Swans.
Scott Sinclair
Scott Sinclair
The hat-trick hero of Swansea’s cup final win, Scott Sinclair scored 28 goals in 82 appearances for Swansea, before departing for Manchester City in 2012. However, after spending a lot of time on the bench, and plenty of time on loan, Sinclair eventually departed for Aston Villa in 2015. After their relegation, Sinclair rejoined former manager Brendan Rodgers, and team-mate Dorus de Vries, at Celtic.
Stephen Dobbie
Joining Swansea in 2009 from Scottish side Queen of the South, Dobbie had two years at the Liberty Stadium, scoring 9 goals in 55 appearances. The attacking midfielder eventually departed for Brighton in 2012, and now plays his trade back at Queen of the South, the side he left for Swansea.
Fabio Borini
The Chelsea youth player joined Swansea on loan in 2011, scoring 6 goals in his 9 appearances. Despite spending just a brief spell at the Liberty Stadium, Borini became a popular figure amongst Swans fans, and now plays for their relegation rivals, Sunderland.
Manager – Brendan Rodgers
After an unsuccessful time at Reading, Brendan Rodgers joined Swansea City in 2010, guiding the to promotion in his first season with the club. Bringing with him a brand of exciting, attacking football, Rodgers eventually caught the eye of Liverpool, who he left the Swans for in 2012. Now managing Celtic in Scotland, Brendan Rodgers has arguably been one of the most successful managers in Swansea’s history.
