Can Leeds get the job done where Swansea City failed?

Leeds United are pushing ahead to try and hire Marcelo Bielsa.

SkySports reported this week that the Whites are in advanced talks with Bielsa over their vacancy.

If they do manage to land the famed tactician, then new Championship rivals Swansea City will be left wondering what could have been.

This is because Swansea made a strong push to try and land Bielsa three years ago.

Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins (c) looks on during the Premier League match between Swansea City and Crystal Palace at Liberty Stadium on December 23, 2017 in Swansea, Wales.

Chairman Huw Jenkins tried hard to tempt Bielsa to Swansea to replace Garry Monk, who would later go on to manage Leeds.

BBC Sport reported Jenkins flew to Argentina to hold talks with Bielsa to try and convince him to take over at the Liberty Stadium.

He was unsuccessful, and Swansea have led a torturous path since.

Bob Bradley, Manager of Swansea City looks on prior to the Premier League match between Swansea City and West Ham United at Liberty Stadium on December 26, 2016 in Swansea, Wales.

They stuck with Alan Curtis as a caretaker before appointing Francesco Guidolin a month later and then sacking him early the next season.

This led them to Bob Bradley and then Paul Clement, who was later also sacked in favour of Carlos Carvalhal, who has also since left the club with Grahm Potter incoming.

Bielsa would have been a brave appointment and now Swansea could get a close look at ‘what might have been’ first hand if he takes over at their new Championship competitors Leeds United.
