It was another busy weekend for Swansea’s raft of loanees, with several of them getting time on the pitch for their temporary sides.

Portuguese striker Eder scored his second goal of the season for Lille, netting what turned out to be the winner in their 2-1 win over Bastia at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy.

It was a crucial win for the hosts, who were second bottom before the match after a dreadful start to the season. The three points lifted Frederic Antonetti’s side to 16th ahead of Friday night’s tricky test against PSG.

Facing the French champions on Sunday was Bafetimbi Gomis, whose Marseille side earned a creditable point from a 0-0 draw at the Parc des Princes. Gomis has scored six goals this season and played the full 90 minutes against Unai Emery’s men.

Domestically, Kyle Bartley had another solid match at the heart of the Leeds United back four as the Whites claimed an excellent 1-0 win at Wolves.

Installed as captain by Garry Monk, Bartley and fans favourite Pontus Jansson have developed a formidable partnership at Elland Road and supporters have been quick to praise the duo.

Fellow Swans loanee Matt Grimes is finding life somewhat tougher in West Yorkshire, and the England u-21 international did not feature at Molineux despite making a substitute appearance against Wigan in midweek.

The hard-earned three points saw Leeds rise to tenth. Next up for Bartley is an EFL Cup tie against Norwich – which Grimes should also be in contention for – on Tuesday evening followed by Burton’s visit to Elland Road in the Championship on Saturday.

Marvin Emnes drew a blank for Blackburn in their 1-0 defeat at Bristol City. Having netted three times in his first four league games for Rovers, the Dutchman is now without a goal in five matches for Owen Coyle’s side.

Young goalkeeper Josh Vickers kept a clean sheet for Barnet as the Bees recorded a vital victory at Wycombe. The 20-year-old was making his 13th appearance for the League Two strugglers, who climbed out of the drop zone thanks to the win at Adams Park.

Elsewhere in the fourth tier, Josh Sheehan was unfortunate to see his afternoon end prematurely as his Newport side went down 3-1 at home to league leaders Plymouth.

County were holding their own at 0-0 when goalkeeper Joe Day was sent off after 36 minutes, and Sheehan was the attacking player to be sacrificed so that the hosts could send on a replacement between the sticks.

The 21-year-old will hope for a slightly longer run out in Newport’s next game, which comes on Tuesday when they welcome Vickers and Barnet to Rodney Parade in what is a crunch encounter at the bottom of the Football League.
