Huw Jenkins has confirmed that the Welsh club are keen to bring the midfielder back to the Liberty Stadium.
Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed to the South Wales Evening Post that the Welsh club are interested in bringing Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen back to the Liberty Stadium.
Allen is entering the last year of his contract at Anfield and has not received any assurances over his future despite playing an increased role in the first team under Jurgen Klopp in recent months.
The 26-year-old made 37 appearances in all competitions for the Reds in 2015-16 and after making just seven Premier League appearances before the start of February, featured in virtually every league and Europa League match in the final three-and-a-half months of the season, either from the start or as a substitute.
However, his future is still up in the air despite that increased involvement, leading to speculation that he could be set for a move back to his hometown club this summer.
When asked by the South Wales Evening Post, Swans chairman Jenkins confirmed that the club would be keen to bring home the popular former star if the chance for any deal arose after Euro 2016.
Jenkins said: “I think it has been well-documented that Joe is going to look at his future when he is finished out at Euro 2016.
“Naturally, we are interested in good players like Joe who may be available this summer given that he has a year left on his contract. Obviously we will keep tabs on his situation and see what happens later in the summer.”
With just a year left on his deal, Allen would be unlikely to command too high a fee if he does move on, and Swansea would surely be high on the list of his preferred destinations.
Another advantage that the club may have is that Allen’s former teammates in South Wales, Swans captain Ashley Williams and left-back Neil Taylor, will be spending every day with the midfielder over the next few weeks with all three players away with the Welsh squad for Euro 2016, and will have plenty of time to convince him to return home.
