Swansea City boss Paul Clement should enter the race to sign Chelsea forward Tammy Abraham, and his previous ties with the club could give the Swans an advantage if they do bid for him.

Abraham returned to Chelsea last week following a highly successful spell on loan at Championship side Bristol City. The 19-year-old scored 26 goals for the Robins and was a bright light in what was otherwise a season to forget for the Robins.

His impressive goal haul for a side that finished in the bottom half of the Championship has gained the England U21 international a number of new admirers. It is likely that his parent club, the new Premier League champions, will be keen to see if he is able to produce similar performances in England’s top tier.

If Chelsea decide to loan one of their brightest prospects out to a Premier League club for next season then there will likely be a number of clubs happy to add the 6ft 4in striker to their squad for the upcoming campaign.

Swansea City should be one of the clubs interested if the opportunity does arise. After the Swans secured their Premier League status, Clement’s attentions will turn to trying to keep his star players.

One of those players linked with a move away from the Liberty Stadium is towering Spanish forward Fernando Llorente who is set to hold contract talks to decide his future (ESPN). The 32-year-old has scored 14 goals for the Swans this season.

If Clement is unable to convince Llorente that his immediate future lies in Wales then the 45-year-old should use his connections with Chelsea to make a move for Abraham. Clement was assistant to Carlo Ancelotti at Stamford Bridge when the club lifted the Premier League title in 2010.

Abraham would be an ideal replacement for Llorente and his similar style of play would help him fit into Swansea’s system which relies on a strong aerial presence up front. A potential loan move to Swansea for Abraham would represent a good deal for all parties concerned.
