Tottenham Hotspur picked up a 2-0 victory against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium last night.
Sanchez narrowly avoided a red card in the contest, and he was quickly hooked off after his second foul.
The Colombian centre-back was on his last warning, and rather than risk seeing the defender sent off, Pochettino decided to change his team around.
Pochettino brought on Victor Wanyama and pushed Eric Dier to centre-back, as Spurs picked up a 2-0 win at the Liberty Stadium.
“The Tottenham manager made a clever substitution to take the centre-half out, because everybody knows why,” Carvalhal said.
Even Pochettino admitted after the contest, that Spurs had got lucky to see Sanchez avoid a red.
Spurs also benefitted from another poor refereeing decision, as Fernando Llorente’s goal was allowed to stand, despite the Spanish striker heading home from an offside position.
There were few complaints about Tottenham’s second goal though, as Harry Kane’s brilliant pass was latched on to and converted by Dele Alli.
Tottenham’s victory has put them in fifth place in the Premier League table, but they do have a game in hand on many of their Champions League chasing rivals.
