Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson says his side can take heart from their similar troubles last year after slumping to 19th place in the Premier League table this season and once again sacking their manager.
The Swans were comfortably beaten 3-1 on Monday night against Stoke City, extending their winless run to nine games in the league, stretching back all the way to the opening day of the season.

Swansea’s poor start to the season last year was not quite as bad as this campaign, however there are some distinctive similarities in that they have struggled for form, which has led to a change in manager.
And Sigurdsson believes that the team can take heed from their situation last year and ultimately this will help save their season this time round.

Speaking to the official Swans website, the 27-year-old Icelander said: “We can learn from the position we were in last year.
“With the position we were in last December, we managed to turn it around with some good results. We know that when we pick up a good result we can use that and get a run going.
“Last season we went on a run without a win for quite a long while. But as soon as we won a game it gave us confidence and we kicked on from there.”
However, while Sigurdsson believes that just one win can turn the fortunes of a side, such a victory may prove elusive for the time being.
In Swansea’s next four games, they play the likes of Manchester United, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur, meaning they may need to wait for the game against Sunderland at the Liberty Stadium on the 10th December to kickstart their season.
