Swansea boss admits uncertain future after meeting with chairman

Swansea boss Francesco Guidolin says Liverpool defeat could put his job under threat after a meeting with chairman Huw Jenkins.

Francesco Guidolin has admitted that his job could be under threat if Swansea are defeated against Liverpool this weekend, in an interview published by BBC Sport.

Speculation surrounding Guidolin’s job has been constant this week after claims that American coach Bob Bradley met Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins this week.

The Spanish boss has been put under pressure by fans and the media after picking up just five points from six games and both Bradley and Ryan Giggs have been linked with the job over the course of the last fortnight.

When asked whether he needed to take all three points against Liverpool to keep his job, Guidolin replied, as quoted by BBC Sport: “Maybe, it could happen.

“I spoke with the chairman last week, but at the moment the most important thing for me is to me to work with my players and with my team to prepare for the next game, to be focused and with concentration,

“I know it is not a good moment for our team but not the manager. It is not a good moment because the table does not look good and we need results. But at the moment my position is not important, what is important is the position of Swansea City.”

Swansea go up against Liverpool this weekend as they look to bounce back from last week’s home defeat against Manchester City.

It gets no easier for the Swans, and indeed Guidolin, with a clash against Arsenal coming up next week.

According to BBC Sport, Swansea’s new American owners have become alarmed by recent results and the club’s struggles in 17th in the table.

Despite the pressure, Guidolin outlined why he didn’t ask for assurances from Huw Jenkins. He added: “I just need to work and get a result because this is football.

“Without results, words are not important. It’s important to win and I know this. It’s clear for me, it’s clear for the chairman and clear for everybody.”

It is understood that Swansea will have to build on their improved performance against Manchester City over the next two games if Guidolin is to keep his job in South Wales moving further into the season.
