West Ham are said to still be trying to tie-up a deal for PSG midfielder Javier Pastore, but the London club might be better off considering Manchester United’s Ander Herrera, who has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford and could potentially be on his way out.

The latest reports from Spanish outlet AS suggest that Manchester United’s 28-year-old Spanish midfielder Ander Herrera is attracting interest from both Atletico Madrid and AC Milan. However, whilst West Ham try to tie up a costly move for PSG midfielder Javier Pastore, perhaps the London club should be taking a look at the out-of-favour Manchester United midfielder instead.
Ander Herrera has proved he is a top quality player at Manchester United and in his four years at the club he has appeared in 161 matches. In 2017/18, he started just 13 league games; coming on from the bench another 13 times. Herrara also scored two FA Cup goals, achieved a pass accuracy of 88.4% and played an average of 43.8 passes per game.

Whilst Pastore is just a month older than Herrera, he is asking for wages of £140,000 a week, according to reports from TuttoMercato. However, Herrera is currently on just £75,000 a week at Manchester United; and he would undoubtedly be affordable target for West Ham.
TransferMarkt currently value Herrera at £27M and with just a year left on his contract, the Hammers could pick him up for not much more than this. Herrera’s defensive and offensive competence should tempt West Ham – with Pastore more of an attacking midfielder.

Pastore is the kind of player to sit on the edge of the box and set up intricate attacking moves, but if West Ham keep Manuel Lanzini, Pastore may not be needed at the London Stadium. Herrera, meanwhile, is able to cover defensively or intercept moves, and is also able to play balls forward to launch counter-attacks. Added to this, Manchester United’s Herrera has already proved himself in the Premier League, and would surely represent less of a gamble.
