Tottenham Hotspur should invest in the Dutch wonderkid before someone else moves first.
Ajax centre-back Matthijs de Ligt is turning the heads of Europe’s elite and for all the right reasons. The 18-year-old has already become an integral part of Ajax’s defence, helping them to a Europa League final against Manchester United last season.
As reported by the Sun, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing the young £45million-rated Dutchman. They have seemingly lost interest in pursuing Alfie Mawson or Harry Maguire as they seek a potential replacement for Toby Alderweireld.
Alderweireld, as reported by TalkSport, is seeking a move away from Spurs and de Ligt could be the perfect replacement.
Despite being just 18, de Ligt has been consistent, competent and remarkable for Ajax this season. He has played in 37 games in all club competitions, as well as picking up his fourth and fifth caps for the Dutch national team.
Although featuring as a centre-back, de Ligt has scored three times and assisted twice while achieving an average pass accuracy of 89.4%.
De Ligt’s passing is a big part of his game and could help Tottenham bridge the gap between their defence and attack, ultimately taking them to the next level and finally securing some much-needed silverware.
De Ligt is destined for the very top of the game and, at such a young age, he is surely a risk Tottenham should be willing to take.
