The Liverpool centre-back even made a joke at the Brazilian’s expense ahead of the fixture between Brazil and Croatia at Anfield.
In football, old friendships die hard. This weekend Liverpool and Croatia centre-back, Dejan Lovren, posted a picture of himself and former teammate Philippe Coutinho. Ahead of his return to Anfield as Brazil took on Croatia, Coutinho, 25, took the time to reunite with Lovren.
Coutinho left Liverpool in January when nearly five years with the club came to an end after Barcelona’s relentless pursuit of the play-maker. In his time at Liverpool, he scored 54 times in 201 games in all competitions and was widely regarded as one of their star players.
Posing with Coutinho on Instagram, Lovren captioned the image: “Great to see you brate. I know you miss this place.”
Since moving to Barcelona for a fee of £142 million (including clauses), Coutinho made 18 appearances for the Catalan club in La Liga. In this time, he has scored eight times and assisted a further five, with an impressive pass accuracy of 86.9 per cent.
Lovren, meanwhile, has warmed the hearts of Liverpool fans this season and has shown much improved performances when compared with past campaigns.
With an average of five clearances, 1.3 interceptions and one tackle per game, the 28-year-old Croatian has been instrumental to Liverpool’s success; even scoring twice in the league.
