The Celtic defender has been linked with a move to Southampton.

With the transfer window open, Southampton are considering their options as they look to strengthen their squad.
Following the high-profile sale of Virgil Van Dijk to Liverpool, it seems clear that Southampton need to bring in a new defender, and one player who could fill that void is Erik Sviatchenko.
As reported by The Daily Record, Celtic have made Sviatchenko available for transfer, with Southampton monitoring the situation.

Sviatchenko may have fallen out of favour at Celtic but the Dane still produced some encouraging performances during his time at the club and would fit in well at Southampton.
While he undoubtedly isn’t of the same quality as Van Dijk, Sviatchenko would help to make Southampton resilient at the back and he would surely relish the opportunity to play regularly in the Premier League.

With Celtic eager to sell him, it appears that Sviatchenko could be available for a small fee and Southampton should jump at the opportunity to finalise a deal, especially as doing so would mean that they would still have significant funds available for other transfers.
This represents an opportunity for Southampton to secure a good deal early in the transfer window and it is certainly a chance that they should take.
