Sutton sticking to his guns over criticism of Celtic’s academy

Celtic youngsters led them to a 5-0 victory over Kilmarnock last night.

Celtic continue to perform like a juggernaut steamrollering opposition in Scottish football, demolishing Kilmarnock 5-0 last night.

The Scottish League Cup win came with the help of several young players with five teenagers starting the game.

These included Scotland youth international Anthony Ralston who scored his first ever goal for the club, while 20-year-old Kieran Tierney was also among the goalscorers.

Former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has been critical of the club’s academy in recent weeks, and was asked by a fan on Twitter if he wishes now to retract his comments.

Sutton insisted he is sticking to his guns, although he welcomely admits last night was a step forward.

Brendan Rodgers is a manager who has a strong reputation of developing young players, going back to his days as a coach at Chelsea.

Celtic’s dominance at the top of Scottish football gives them more luxury to bring academy talents through.

Now it is up to the likes of Ralston to follow up on last night’s promising step forward.
