Celtic extended their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership, but could not extend their recent winning run.
Chris Sutton has taken to Twitter to suggest that Celtic are nowhere near the level of last season after their goalless draw with Motherwell on Sunday, while he also criticised Scott Sinclair for squandering a late chance.
It was a tough afternoon for the Hoops that was almost made tougher by Motherwell being reduced to 10 men during the first-half after Cedric Kipre was sent off following a clash with Scott Brown.
Well defended superbly throughout the contest to earn a much-deserved point that sees Brendan Rodgers’ side extend their lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership but also brings to an end to their recent winning run that included victories over Aberdeen and Rangers.
Celtic always looked the more likely side to score and it appeared that they were about to break the deadlock in the dying minutes as Scott Sinclair led a counter attack with Patrick Roberts joining him inside the home side’s penalty area.
It seemed that Sinclair just needed to roll the ball across the box for Roberts to find the back of the empty net, but the Englishman decided to take the shot on himself and saw his effort blocked by the excellent Richard Tait.
Despite Celtic always looking the more threatening, Sutton was only really full of praise for Motherwell’s dogged display when he commented on the result on Twitter, and he also slated Sinclair just after the chance had been passed up in the final minutes.
