Chris Sutton has told The Record that he doesn’t want Joe Hart ‘anywhere near’ Celtic this summer.
The Hoops have a bit of a crisis in regards to goalkeeping options right now.
Celtic lost veteran Craig Gordon on a Bosman last month and earlier this week it was reported that Fraser Forster – who had a brilliant loan at Parkhead last term – didn’t want another move to Glasgow, leaving Neil Lennon with Scott Bain as his only senior keeper.
The Daily Record reported recently that the Bhoys are interested in signing the former Manchester City and Burnley stopper, who has been released by the Clarets.
But Celtic legend Sutton isn’t interested in that idea, advising his old club against such a transfer.
He told The Record: “I’ll tell you one place they shouldn’t go anywhere near and that’s Joe Hart. He was a top-class goalkeeper at his peak, but he’s too much of a gamble having had a bad spell in his career.
“If you want my opinion, he won’t be anywhere near Celtic Park.”
Hart, who was on £45,000 per week at Turf Moor, gets a pretty bad rep but the truth is that he wouldn’t be a bad option for Celtic, if his wage demands were reasonable.
He has 75 caps for England that’s 12 times as many as Forster, which doesn’t exactly prove that Hart is the better keeper, but it does illustrate that he’s far more experienced and fans shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it.
