Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Harry Winks has received glowing praise from Chris Sutton.
Chris Sutton has claimed in his Daily Mail column that Tottenham Hotspur wonderkid Harry Winks will be on the plane to Russia next summer after starring in his only England outing.
Winks, 21, has started all but one of Tottenham’s last nine league and cup matches, missing the 3-2 loss to West Ham United in the Carabao Cup as he was one of the first-team stars to be rested against the east Londoners.
His form saw Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate opt to hand him his first England cap against Lithuania last month, starring in the 1-0 win in Vilnius which saw Harry Kane score a penalty to earn a place in Russia next summer.
Coming off at half-time against Crystal Palace on Saturday after twisting his ankle, the Spurs academy graduate is set to miss Friday night’s clash against Germany as well as facing Brazil in four days’ time.
One-time England international Sutton, who also played for Celtic and Chelsea, believes that Winks has already booked his seat on the flight to Russia’s 2018 World Cup next summer, despite missing the upcoming friendlies.
“Nobody was tipping Harry Winks for a place in the World Cup squad before Southgate handed him a debut against Lithuania last month,” Sutton said.
“Since impressing in that game, Winks has excelled for Tottenham against Real Madrid and Liverpool. Now he is the most talked-about young English player and looks set for Russia.”
Winks pulled out of the England squad to face Germany and Brazil, along with Jordan Henderson, Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Fabian Delph, with only Michael Keane, Jack Cork and Jake Livermore called up in their place.
However, Spurs’ number 29 is expected to be fit for November 18’s north London derby against bitter rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium, along with Kane and Alli.
