Liverpool announced the appointment of Claudio Taffarel a little earlier this week.
The legendary Brazil international has joined Jurgen Klopp’s coaching staff at Kirkby.
More specifically, the 55-year-old will work as a goalkeeping coach, alongside John Achtenberg and Jack Robinson.
Taffarel won a World Cup title with Brazil in 1994, and was a runner-up in France four years later.
He has already worked with Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker at international level.
And on Thursday, Taffarel kicked off his stint on Merseyside.
Here’s how some Liverpool fans reacted to a photo of him in training:
Wisdom
Alisson is one of the world’s finest goalkeepers and at this stage, Taffarel may not be able to teach him anything that the 29-year-old already doesn’t know.
But Liverpool have some cracking younger stoppers.
At 23, Caoimhin Kelleher has a big future at Anfield after a number of very impressive displays already.
And even younger, the Reds also have Marcelo Pitaluga who, at 18, could benefit immensely from Taffarel’s wisdom, knowledge and experience.
Having three goalkeeping coaches may seem a tad excessive by Liverpool, but if it benefits the relevant players then really, who cares?
