Jack Marriott was made aware of a statistic about him regarding his sharpness in front on goal and even he was surprised.

Derby County are having a pretty good season under Frank Lampard, currently sitting sixth in the Championship table and very much in promotion contention.

One of the Chelsea legend’s first signings at Pride Park was centre-forward Jack Marriott, who joined last summer from Peterborough United (Sky Sports).

It took a little while for the 24-year-old to get his first goal at Derby, breaking his duck in September (Transfermarkt), but it was worth the wait as it came against none other than Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Marriott’s goal put the Rams 2-1 up in their Carabao Cup third-round tie and, although the Red Devils equalised in stoppage time, the visitors eventually triumphed on penalties (Derby Telegraph).

Now, the striker has 10 goals and four assists to his name in all competitions for Derby and, in an interview with Sky Sports News, he was made aware of a pretty sensational statistic about him.

Since the start of last season, Marriott has scored 43 goals, and 33 of them have been first-time finishes, while for Derby, he has only taken more than two touches for one of his 10 goals so far, according to the outlet.

“I didn’t know that!” he said. “That’s quite a stat actually! I prefer shooting earlier because it requires less thinking and you can’t over-complicate things. It also gives goalkeepers less time as well.

“I much prefer the instinctive reaction finishes because I’m not one to take a million touches and try to get a shot away after beating five people. The less touches the better.”

Up next for Derby is Friday night’s Championship game away at Preston North End.
