The Brooklyn Nets could unexpectedly emerge as a serious contender in the Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, with league sources suggesting the timing may finally align.
The Brooklyn Nets are being linked with a potential move for Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo as the franchise evaluates its long-term direction.
Despite operating in a rebuilding phase, the Brooklyn Nets are believed to be positioning themselves for a significant shift.

Brooklyn Nets interest in Giannis Antetokounmpo emerges
Brian Lewis reported that the Brooklyn Nets have long kept Giannis Antetokounmpo on their radar and may not allow their current tanking season to prevent them from making a push.
According to the report, multiple league sources believe Brooklyn intends to be competitive in the 2026 and 2027 seasons.
One league source told Lewis, “Then this is their moment. Really depends on if they decide that their aimless tank is over. They could sure make the best offer.”
The Nets possess a significant collection of draft assets, giving them flexibility if they decide to pursue a blockbuster deal.
Brian Windhorst outlines Brooklyn Nets trade appeal
Brian Windhorst also addressed the possibility of a Brooklyn Nets pursuit of Giannis Antetokounmpo while discussing league dynamics.
Speaking on the Hoop Collective Podcast, Windhorst explained why Brooklyn could realistically enter the conversation.
He pointed to Brooklyn’s draft capital as a key factor that separates them from many potential suitors.
“Brooklyn has 10 tradable firsts and 11 tradable firsts as of draft night. I think Brooklyn will seriously consider making an offer.”
The Nets initially considered using their assets for Giannis this summer. However, they weren’t in a position to be competitive at the time, and decided against it.
Under Sean Marks, the Nets have never hesitated to pull the trigger on a superstar trade. However, they must be careful not to make a move that doesn’t serve anyone’s needs.
