Simon Jordan told talkSPORT (17/08/21 at 10:10 am) that he doesn’t understand why West Ham are trying to sign Chelsea defender Kurt Zouma.
The former Crystal Palace owner labelled Zouma as an ‘alright’ player and stated it ‘surprises’ him West Ham are pushing for a centre-back and not putting more focus on other areas of the pitch.
Even though the Hammers will be competing in Europe this season, they still haven’t made the strides their fans would have liked in the transfer market.
But one player it seems they will go all in for is Zouma and his preference is to stay in London, as reported by Sky Sports.
Given that Chelsea might be happy to part ways with the Frenchman this summer, Jordan shared that it ‘astounds’ him that the Hammers are then looking to sign that player.
“Kurt Zouma, I don’t know, he’s a decent centre-back,” said Jordan. “It always astounds me, and I am not saying West Ham and Tottenham are bonafide competitors for the top four.
“But if you are trying to reach that level, and a player isn’t considered good enough for in that level, then I wonder why he is good enough for your level.
“But I suppose all coaches think they can do better than what other coaches have done previously.
“I am not one that looks at Kurt Zouma and thinks ‘brilliant centre-back’. I think he’s alright – it surprises me that their focal point is a centre-half.”

Zouma has healthy experience both on the Premier League and European stage, but he might not be a regular at Stamford Bridge this season.
Perhaps, from the players perspective, he has to look at the game time and who will allow him to progress his career.
Given that Zouma helped Chelsea win the Champions League last season then helping West Ham in the Europa League would prove to be useful.
The key thing here is that he would get into West Ham’s XI, and given that very little business has been done by the club this summer, perhaps this would provide the fans with a lift if they do snap him up.
