Dean Saunders has claimed that he is ‘surprised’ Manchester City are going to let Gabriel Jesus join Arsenal, as he told talkSPORT.

The former striker labelled Jesus as a ‘top-notch’ player and someone who would be a top, top signing for those in Arsenal colours.

Football’s worst kept secret is yet to be confirmed, with Jesus recently being pictured hugging club director, Edu Gaspar, ahead of his transfer from the Premier League champions.

When the Jesus deal is announced, he will provide much-needed quality and competition to Mikel Arteta’s forward line – the recently-criticised Eddie Nketiah is someone who he will compete with him.

Nonetheless, former Liverpool and Aston Villa striker, Saunders, shared his thoughts on Jesus’ imminent deal and how Arteta is about to pull off a ’top-notch’ transfer.

“This was different because Arteta knows Jesus,” said Saunders. “I think he’s a really, really good player.

“I thought Zinchenko was the weak link at Man City sometimes, until I saw him play this summer for Ukraine. He has shown how good he is.

“If you play for Manchester City, as much as Jesus has played, you have to be a top-notch player. I am surprised they have let him go. What a signing for Arsenal.”

HOW MANY GOALS WILL JESUS SCORE FOR ARSENAL?

Jesus is someone who can produce Man of the Match performances during games without putting the ball into the back of the net.

Throughout the season, whilst he will deploy that central role, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he is played out wide by Arteta.

But now the pressure is really on the Brazil international and he will be expected to do some serious talking in the goals department.

At the Etihad, Pep Guardiola used him out wide on a number of occasions and he never scored more than 14 goals, well, he’s going to have to beat that number if he is going to guide his new club to Champions League football.
