Leeds United defender Diego Llorente has admitted that he was shocked after he signed at Elland Road, due to how ‘great’ the squad is.

In an interview with Sky, Llorente opened up about his time at Leeds so far.

And the Spaniard had nothing but praise for Leeds players and staff, who shocked him with just how open they were to him joining when he first arrived.

“One of the things that surprised me most when I arrived was the great group there is here,” he said.

“They are very sociable people who look out for you and that is something I’m very grateful for.

“For me, that was one of the things that helped me most in my recovery – on a mental level as much as a physical one.

“I only have words of gratitude for the staff, the medical team, my team-mates, the sporting director, and the president. In the bad moments I’ve had, all of them have supported me.”

Llorente has suffered a difficult time at Leeds since signing, but he is beginning to prove his worth now.

The Spaniard, who was named in his nation’s latest international squad, has started in Leeds’ last four Premier League matches.

While there have been areas of weakness in his game, Llorente has generally coped well – with his passing range a clear strength.

The 27-year-old looks likely to start again later this evening, when Leeds take on Fulham.
