Speaking on the Soccer AM YouTube channel, Callum Wilson has been waxing-lyrical about Jacob Murphy’s finishing ability.

The striker was playing a game where he had to guess which Newcastle player was the highest-rated in a number of stats you’d find on a FIFA Ultimate Team card, and when it came to shooting, he was in no doubt about who he was picking.

Indeed, Wilson picked Murphy, claiming that he’s a surprisingly good finisher.

“I’d say he’s very, very technically good ain’t he? Yeah, left-foot, right-foot. He can take free-kicks with his left-foot and they end up in the top corner and stuff. He surprised me when I came here with his finishing and that. He was taking free-kicks outside the box with his left foot and they were flying into the top corner, and I was thinking, is this kid right-footed or left-footed?”

It’s somewhat surprising to hear Wilson speak about Murphy in this way.

The wide player may be a fantastic finisher in training, but he’s only scored two Premier League goals all season.

Perhaps it’s because he’s been playing in a more defensive role this term and not had much of a sight of goal, but it’s hard to agree with Wilson that Murphy is the best finisher at Newcastle.

In fact, the argument we would make is that Wilson himself is the best finisher at the club.
