Jamie Carragher told Monday Night Football on Sky Sports that Pep Guardiola will be ‘pleased’ Tottenham have sacked Jose Mourinho ahead of the League Cup final.
On Monday, Tottenham parted ways with Mourinho and Carragher thinks Spurs now have ‘less chance’ of beating Manchester City at Wembley.
Mourinho’s track record is pretty strong in finals having lost just twice in 14 games and also having never been beaten during the 90 minutes.
With Daniel Levy taking the decision to boot Mourinho out before Sunday’s showdown with Manchester City, Carragher admitted that he was ‘surprised by the move.
“Yes (it was a surprise), I didn’t think Jose would be their next season,” said Carragher. “I couldn’t see light at the end of the tunnel for Spurs.
“My argument (before Mourinho’s sacking) was is winning the League Cup enough for Spurs to keep Jose in a job or looking towards the future?
“I always thought, you keep him for the cup final, he is great in cup finals and in one-off games. Maybe not so much now. His record isn’t as good, you expect that. But I think Spurs have less chance of winning (now). I think Pep Guardiola will be pleased when he sees that.
“Unless, the only thing I can think of, is that Daniel Levy, the players have gone to him and the feeling at that club is that bad that they, the players, do feel like they have more chance of winning at the weekend (without Mourinho).
“Or maybe, he (Levy) felt that if he won that cup then it would make it more difficult to move him on. I was surprised, But I didn’t think he was going to be their next season.”

It will be interesting to see where Mourinho’s next path will take him and whether he will be back in the Premier League.
Given that he has managed two London clubs, it’s near-on impossible to see him walking the touchline in the capital again.
Down the line, Liverpool and Manchester City is surely off the cards given that they are not looking for instant success and the fact that Mourinho managed Manchester United.
That then leaves a select few big clubs, with Everton, Aston Villa and Newcastle contenders
