Everton were thumped 4-1 by Southampton on Sunday.

Everton’s season lurched to another low on Sunday, as they were hammered 4-1 away at Southampton – just days after losing 5-1 to Atalanta.
The Toffees were already reeling from Thursday’s defeat before heading to the South Coast, and they fell behind early as Ryan Bertrand picked out Dusan Tadic for the opening goal.
Gylfi Sigurdsson rattled home a stunning long-range strike to make it 1-1 before half time, but that was as good as it got for Everton as the Saints ran riot in the second half.

Two near post headers from Charlie Austin put Southampton 3-1 up, and Steven Davis wrapped up a 4-1 victory with a fine finish from the edge of the box late in the game.
Everton’s defending throughout was shambolic at best, and the Toffees now lie 16th in the Premier League table, just two points clear of the relegation zone after another miserable week.
The managerless Toffees – who still haven’t replaced Ronald Koeman – have a chance to get back to winning ways when they take on West Ham on Wednesday night, but Hammers fans are sensing an opportunity.

West Ham fans took to Twitter during and after Everton’s performance against Southampton, suggesting that they are there for the taking and a shambles defensively, giving fans hope of a positive result.
Others suggested that West Ham surely can’t lose at Goodison Park on Wednesday night, even claiming that the Hammers deserve to be relegated if they don’t win, as fans hope that struggling caretaker Unsworth hasn’t been replaced.
