Despite Manchester United interest this is why Tottenham Hotspur still remain the best move for Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon.
With Luke Shaw expected to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season the Red Devils view Sessegnon as the ideal long-term replacement.
They have shown interest in Danny Rose of Tottenham Hotspur, but could drop that in favour of a left-sided player ten years his junior.
United the best option?
Spurs themselves have been the favourites to sign Sessegnon for some time, with the 17-year-old having greatly impressed in the Championship this term with 14 goals in 38 matches.
And surely Mauricio Pochettino’s record of developing young talent at Tottenham in comparison to Jose Mourinho’s at United should still make the former the standout option for the teenager?
While Mourinho was at pains to point out the opportunities he has given to youngsters when quizzed about it, in truth the only one who has truly kicked on under the Portuguese is Luke McTominay.
Marcus Rashford has done well since the 55-year-old was appointed in the summer of 2016 but has still struggled for starts, while exciting prospects such as Axel Tuanzebe, Andreas Pereira and Angel Gomes have barely been used.
This is in stark contrast to Pochettino, who has improved the likes of Dele Alli, Eric Dier, Harry Kane and Davinson Sanchez by entrusting them with regular game time despite their young age.
