Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly interested in Alassane Plea, but surely the Magpies must now yield.

If Newcastle United sign a striker this summer, it probably won’t be Alassane Plea.
Back in April, The Shields Gazette reported that Newcastle were interested in the Nice striker, who would command a fee of around £15 million.

But it looks Tottenham Hotspur are now interested. Even at £15 million it was a stretch for the Magpies, but Tottenham’s reported bid of £23 million [RMC Sport] blows Newcastle out of the water completely, if true.

It remains to be seen whether Rafael Benitez has more money to spend this summer in comparison to previous transfer windows.
But even if he does, the Spanish manager isn’t going to be in a position to involve United in a bidding war with Spurs for the 25-year-old, who hit 16 goals in Ligue 1 last season.
It looks like £23 million is the new asking price and it is simply far too steap for Benitez, who will now surely have to explore other opportunities.
