DeAndre Yedlin has arguably been one of Newcastle United’s most consistent performers this season as he continues to be picked as the Toon’s first-choice right-back, but his pay is hardly reflecting his value to the team.

The 24-year-old missed the first four Premier League games of the season as he recovered from a hamstring injury, but has since featured in every top-flight outing for the Magpies.

He has made the right-back slot his own, keeping out summer signing Javier Manquillo. But the Daily Star claim he is earning just £20,000 a week, £50,000 less than top earner Jonjo Shelvey.

The former Tottenham Hotspur and Sunderland defender has starred on the right, proving to be defensively astute but also more than willing to get forward and use his electrifying pace on the right flank.

Despite having a contract at St. James’ Park until the summer of 2021, surely the USA international deserves a pay rise that would reflect his importance to the side.

A new contract would see Yedlin become Newcastle’s right-back for years to come and a platform to build the defence around, rather than keeping him on a low contract and at risk of other teams offering him more tempting deals.
