Surely Burnley can aim higher than West Brom’s James McClean?

Burnley have been linked with a January move for West Bromwich Albion winger James McClean.

West Bromwich Albion’s James McClean is being considered as a January target for Burnley as they look for cover for Robbie Brady, according to the Daily Mail.

Brady is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious knee injury and the Clarets now want support on the left flank during his absence.

Bordeaux attacker Nicolas de Preville and Jordan Jones of Kilmarnock are among the others they are looking at, but should the Lancashire club be aiming higher?

Finances are admittedly limited at Turf Moor in comparison to other Premier League sides, but surely their impressive form this season could allow them to look at players who have proven themselves more than McClean this term.

The Republic of Ireland international is by no means a bad player, but has also failed to register a single goal or assist in 17 games in all competitions in 2017/18 for a Baggies team second from bottom in the the table.

Sean Dyche’s men, meanwhile, have been excellent and are currently in sixth position ahead of Tottenham Hotspur and just one point behind Arsenal ahead of the halfway stage of the domestic campaign.

Dyche has done this with many players that have been overlooked or not deemed good enough by other clubs and could well also get the best out of McClean, but arguably they are now above targeting someone who can not cement a regular starting spot at struggling West Brom.
