Tottenham’s Fernando Llorente impressed against Real Madrid.

Tottenham Hotspur turned in an impressive performance on Tuesday night, as they picked up a 1-1 draw away at Real Madrid in the Champions League.

Few gave Mauricio Pochettino’s men a chance of picking up a result at the Santiago Bernabeu, given that Zinedine Zidane’s side have won three of the last four Champions League finals.

However, Pochettino saw his side step up to the challenge, and they actually took the lead when Serge Aurier’s cross was flicked goalwards by Harry Kane, with the ball ricocheting in off Raphael Varane.

Real did hit back with a Cristiano Ronaldo penalty before half time, and whilst both teams could have won it in the second half, it finished 1-1 in what was a superb result for Tottenham.

Manager Pochettino sprung a surprise with his line-up, as he went with Spanish striker Fernando Llorente up front alongside against Kane, handing the new signing just his second start in all competitions since arriving from Swansea.

The veteran hitman turned in a fine performance, winning more headers than any other Spurs player, whilst only Christian Eriksen created more chances than the burly striker, with his work rate and link-up play proving to be vital.

As Spurs fans praise Llorente for his display, Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to share their frustration at missing out on the 32-year-old, given that manager Antonio Conte had been looking to sign him before Spurs swooped in.

Blues fans suggested that Llorente was showing exactly why Conte was so keen to reunite with his former Juventus ace, as his link-up play and ‘superb’ all-round centre forward play caught the eye of Chelsea supporters.

Some even took to Twitter after the weekend defeat to Crystal Palace, suggesting that Chelsea should have signed Llorente over the summer to change games like the Selhurst Park loss, and would be a much better option in attack than Michy Batshuayi – and Tottenham will certainly feel great about their decision to sign Llorente.
