Newcastle United look rejuvenated, and one player who has been absolutely key to the Magpies’ recent upturn in form is Kieran Trippier.
The right-back was United’s first January signing, and it’s easy to make an argument that he’s been their best thus far.
Indeed, the defender has marshalled that right side expertly, and on Tuesday he was absolutely excellent.
Trippier grabbed his first Newcastle goal against Everton, while his five tackles and four key passes bookmarked what was a brilliant showing.
Unfortunately, the right-back picked up what was described as a ‘slight calf issue’ against the Toffees, and Alan Shearer is really hopeful that he’ll be able to play against Aston Villa this weekend.
Shearer describes Trippier as superb, and we really can’t disagree with that description.
The right-back has been nothing short of exceptional since arriving at St James’ Park, and we’re sure that Shearer isn’t the only one hoping that he’ll be fit for the weekend.
Eddie Howe is probably hoping and praying that the £12m man can start for his side at the weekend, and with Philippe Coutinho running riot down that side for Villa against Leeds on Wednesday, Howe will be desperate for his first-choice right-back to be available.
