There was a bit of frustration when Liverpool signed only one player last summer.
Ibrahima Konate joined Liverpool in a £36 million deal from Red Bull Leipzig in Germany.
It was confirmed as early as May, setting the Reds up to have a brilliant window.
However, nobody followed the French defender to Anfield for the rest of the summer – not even a replacement for Georginio Wijnaldum.
But you have to say, Konate has proven himself a wonderful signing so far.
The 22-year-old has started six Premier League games under Jurgen Klopp and is yet to be on the losing side.
And Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that people inside Liverpool are ‘super, super happy’ with how he has adapted to English football and his professionalism.
He told Anfield Watch: “In defence, they’ve done fantastic business with Ibrahima Konate. I’m told they’re super, super happy with his attitude, how professional he is and how he’s performing and adapting to a new league.”
Mistake?
Signing the powerhouse wasn’t a mistake and, at £36 million, could go down as another bargain by Michael Edwards on Merseyside.
But only adding him to the squad last summer could be considered a failed gamble.
We’re only halfway through the Premier League campaign and Liverpool are 12 points behind champions Manchester City.
They have two games in hand – the first of which is a trip to Chelsea today – but even still, it looks a massive ask for Klopp’s side to catch City.
And given their injuries this season, particularly to midfielders, maybe Liverpool should’ve signed more players than only Konate last summer.
