Steven Gerrard says Rangers could plan a private friendly for Ryan Jack to gain fitness on his return from injury, plus updates on Glen Kamara and Ryan Kent, via the Daily Record.

Jack has not featured for the Glasgow giants since February due to a persistent calf issue that required surgery. The 29-year-old made a total of 24 appearances in all competitions last season before his campaign ended prematurely.

The £12k-a-week Scotland international remains training away from the main first-team fold as Rangers prepare to face Brondby on Thursday. But Gerrard could welcome Jack back from injury when Ross County visit Ibrox in the Premiership on Sunday.

Kent, meanwhile, has been sidelined since September with a hamstring injury sustained during the Gers’ Europa League defeat to Lyon. Ibrox chiefs initially expected the 24-year-old would miss up to a month following scans, but has needed longer to recover.

Gerrard explains Jack plan, as Kent returns from injury

Gerrard has confirmed Kent will travel with Rangers to Denmark for their group stage tie after training on Tuesday. While detailing the Glasgow outfit’s plans for Jack’s return with an international break following their meeting with Ross County.

“Ryan Kent trained with the group yesterday, he will travel with us,” Gerrard said. “Ryan Jack is training away. He will have an outside chance of being involved at the weekend, depending on how this game goes. But Ryan has been back in full training for a couple of weeks now.

“I think the international break is super-important for Ryan in terms of getting a load of work in big spaces in his legs. And maybe trying to get a game behind closed doors for him to get some minutes under his belt because he has obviously been out for a long time.”

Kamara a doubt for Brondby clash

Gerrard will be glad to welcome both Kent and Jack back into the Rangers squad soon after their injury troubles. The Gers boss could also have Kamara available at Brondby, with the midfielder showing signs of progress after taking a knock against Motherwell on Sunday.

“Glen Kamara had a whack on his ankle,” Gerrard added. “He actually had two kicks on the same ankle, so there is a little bit of swelling in there.

“There has been a big improvement overnight, which gives him that 50% chance and we will wait as long as we need to because he is so important. But we will probably know at the back end of today’s session or tomorrow morning whether he is fit to start or not.”

Kamara scored his first goal of the season in any competition at Motherwell as Rangers won 6-1. He also provided his second assist of the term across 16 appearances. The 26-year-old missed the Gers’ previous Europa League tie with Brondby due to suspension.
