Sunderland’s Joel Lynch labels Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers ‘mediocre sides’

Joel Lynch spent four years with Nottingham Forest and made 90 appearances for Queens Park Rangers before moving to Sunderland.

Sunderland new boy Joel Lynch has suggested in the Sunderland Echo that both Nottingham Forest and Queens Park Rangers were ‘mediocre sides’ when he was playing for them.

Lynch has just left QPR to join Sunderland, after also having a spell at Forest earlier in his career.

And the 31-year-old is desperate to experience a promotion push, as he feels that he missed out on that at both Forest and QPR earlier in his career.

“I think I’ve been in football long enough now to know, I’ve not really had that success, I’ve always sort of been in a mediocre side [at their level],” Lynch said.

“I haven’t had much play-off experience or won things, and I’ve always wanted that.

“My career hasn’t always been what I wanted, I’ve wanted that success so badly and being part of Sunderland, a team that should be winning or is winning, that’s what I wanted to be part of.”

Sunderland are among the favourites for promotion in League One, and it would be a huge disappointment if they were to miss out on the play offs.

Forest and QPR supporters may not exactly be best pleased with Lynch’s comments about them though.

Lynch actually stayed with Forest for four years, making a considerable number of appearances at the City Ground.

The robust defender also played 90 times for QPR before making his move to Sunderland this summer.
