Sunderland winger Jeremain Lens has been speaking about his hopes for the future, with his comments published by the Chronicle.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at Fenerbahce where he is enjoying a fine campaign, scoring twice and providing five assists in 10 appearances to date.

His most notable effort was a strike against Manchester United in the Europa League earlier this month, with Jose Mourinho’s men falling to a 2-1 defeat, but having previously gone on record to say he wants to stay in Turkey, Lens has admitted things are beyond his control.

When asked about his future, the Sunderland man said, “I don’t know. It’s not only depending on me. There are other factors.

“Here at Fener, we’re challenging for trophies. No disrespect to them, but this was not the case when I played for Sunderland.

“If you ask me if I want to stay at Fenerbahce: one hundred per cent yes. But as I’ve said before there are other factors.”

Sunderland have turned a corner after shaky start under manager David Moyes, but it remains to be seen if he will welcome Lens back to the Stadium of Light next summer or bid him farewell for good.

Whatever happens between now and May, you can be sure the Black Cats will fight tooth and nail for survival while Lens will continue to impress his loan club in the hope of making his move permanent.
