Sunderland striker Will Grigg has only scored four times since moving to the Stadium of Light.
Sunderland boss Jack Ross has told the Sunderland Echo that Will Grigg needs to improve.
Grigg was Sunderland’s marquee addition in the January transfer window, but he is yet to really make an impact at the Stadium of Light.
The Northern Irish forward normally guarantees goals at League One level, but he has really struggled to find his feet for Sunderland.
Grigg was given a rare start for the Black Cats last night, but he once again drew a blank, as Ross’ side lost 2-1 to Fleetwood Town.
And Ross was pulling no punches when asked about Grigg’s form since he arrived at Sunderland.
“Yeah partly [managing his ankle] but partly also I think he knows that his performance level needs to go up notches as well,” he said.
“Because he has more in him, undoubtedly, we need to see more of that as well.”
Grigg could find himself on the substitutes’ bench again at the weekend, if Charlie Wyke is fit.
Wyke seems to have become Sunderland’s first choice striker, with Ross often leaving Grigg on the bench.
Sunderland take on Southend United on Saturday, before they begin their play off campaign.
