Sunderland played their first game of the post-Sam Allardyce era this afternoon – and new manager David Moyes saw his side beat Rotherham United 2-1.
The Black Cats saw manager Allardyce leave the club on Friday in order to take the England job, and they moved quickly to land Moyes as his replacement.

The Scot was in the stands as Sunderland beat Rotherham 2-1 earlier today, with Fabio Borini putting the Premier League side in front before Jerry Yates hit back for Alan Stubbs’ Millers.
Sunderland did claim the win though, as trialist Charles N’Zogbia struck to do his chances of winning a permanent contract no harm at all.

The Frenchman, who was released by Aston Villa earlier this summer, is searching for a new club and enjoyed a fine afternoon, notching an assist for Borini’s goal and then the winner in the second half.
N’Zogbia, 30, may have been brought to the club by Allardyce, but will now be looking to impress Moyes – and did just that with a fine performance against Rotherham.

It remains to be seen just how long N’Zogbia will be with Sunderland, but having been quiet so far this summer, the Black Cats may well decide to give the French playmaker a contract this summer.
Moyes will need time to see the former Newcastle man in training and in other pre-season friendlies, but creating chances and scoring goals is the right way to get noticed for a player who has blown hot and cold in the Premier League over the years.
