Sunderland left-back Denver Hume has told the Sunderland Echo that he has been impressed with the work Phil Parkinson has done since he arrived at the Stadium of Light.

Parkinson may not have had the most positive impact at Sunderland in terms of results, but he is still implementing some changes.

The Black Cats are attempting to become much tighter defensively than they were under Jack Ross.

And Hume has been impressed with the work that Parkinson has done on the training ground.

“I think he’s done really well since he’s come in,” Hume said.

“Defensively, he’s spent a lot of time working on our shape on the training ground.

“He’s making sure that everyone knows their job and everyone is in the right position, which is important. I think when you do that in training, it becomes easier to put it out on the pitch. That’s when it becomes almost second nature and it does come together.”
