Jordan Pickford has become Sunderland’s first choice goalkeeper this season.
David Moyes has told Sunderland’s official website that goalkeeper Jordan Pickford played well in defeat against Everton.
Sunderland were beaten 3-0 by the Toffees in their most recent fixture, after putting in a poor performance.
The Black Cats were thoroughly outplayed in the second half, with their defence being all at sea throughout the contest.
However, Pickford received some praise from Moyes – who was pleased with how the 22-year-old responded, after making an error earlier in the season.
“Jordan played very well. If you were taking a real positive from the game, Jordan would be one of them,” Moyes said at his press conference today.
“After his first game when he played well and let one in, we were a bit wary of where it would go. If you get another one, you start to say how long do we keep this going.
“But he played well, he has to keep his standards up no matter what happens, and it looks like he’ll get plenty of work, so we’ll see what he can do.”
Pickford is very highly regarded by Sunderland, and Moyes has shown great faith by making him his first choice stopper.
The England youth international has previously impressed on loan spells with Bradford City and Preston North End, but he had very little experience of top flight football before this season.
Pickford looks likely to start for Sunderland in their next match, which comes against Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
