The former Manchester United man is fast becoming a favourite for the position, which will not end well for Sunderland.

Sunderland fans would have had every right to be fearful of the news that former Manchester United man Ryan Giggs had been made favourite for the vacant managerial position at the Stadium of Light, as reported by the Northern Echo.
The 43-year-old has been pining for a place in a dugout somewhere ever since United decided to hire Jose Mourinho last summer, letting Giggs depart Old Trafford to begin his managerial adventure in the process.

However, Sunderland would genuinely risk back-to-back relegations if they even considered hiring Giggs – a man with pretty much no managerial experience anywhere – for what is probably their most important summer and campaign of the last 10 years.
It’s understandable why some would say that Giggs is being arrogant by not wanting to grow a reputation for himself as a manager in the lower leagues, which is backed up by the fact that – despite not managing anywhere – the Northern Echo reported that he hadn’t spoken to recently relegated Middlesbrough as he’s still holding out for a Premier League job.

But what Sunderland need right now is an experienced head who can shake up the dressing room, know exactly who to bring in, and get Sunderland back into the top flight in a significantly better state than they were when they were relegated.
If they do take the path of hiring Giggs, then not only will they be taking a huge risk in the hope that the Welshman is a virtuoso boss, but they also could find themselves joining a long list of clubs in the Championship – like Nottingham Forest, Derby County and Leeds United – who are simply stuck in the second division no matter what they do, or worse yet, go down.
