If Glasgow Rangers defender David Bates picks Sunderland over staying at Ibrox, then supporters of the Light Blues will have reason to feel frustrated.

The Daily Record have suggested how Sunderland are eyeing up moving for Bates, as they feel that they can land the defender on the cheap.

Bates has just six months remaining on his contract at Rangers, and the 21-year-old has now emerged on Sunderland’s wishlist.

Rangers fans must be concerned if he opts to move to Sunderland rather than pen a new deal at Ibrox though.

Bates has been given regular first-team action at Rangers, and grew up supporting the Ibrox side.

And if a move to Sunderland is more tempting than sticking with Rangers for Bates, then that should be a concern.

Sunderland may historically be a big club, but moving to the Stadium of Light is not the most appealing prospect at this moment in time.

Sunderland are currently sat near the bottom of the Championship table, with relegation looking like a real possibility.

And if Sunderland are able to take important players off Rangers, then that should be seen as a major frustration for Graeme Murty’s side.
