The Sunderland teenager is impressing at under-18 level.

Sunderland’s under-18 coach Mark Atkinson has been speaking to the club’s official website after a Jack Diamond brace secured a 2-0 victory against Stoke City at the weekend.

Diamond is predominantly a striker although he can also operate on both wings when required and that versatility – as well as his ability in front of goal – marks him out as one to watch in the years ahead.

Speaking to safc.com this week, Atkinson said, “We lacked quality in the final third in the first period but after the restart we did much better and Jack scored two really good goals.”

Sunderland’s senior side continues to struggle and manager David Moyes has a tough task on his hands to keep the Black Cats in the top flight next season.

But whatever the short term brings, the future looks bright with Sunderland having a number of exciting young players coming through the ranks.

Diamond will be hoping to live up to his name and if he continues to impress for Sunderland’s under-18 and under-23 sides it will only be a matter of time before he gets the call up to feature for the first-team.
