Ahead of Sunderland’s League One meeting with Plymouth Argyle at the Stadium of Light this Saturday, the Black Cats have opted to “go retro” for the week as they unveiled a one-off marketing initiative for the game.

With both cities having ports, the match has been entitled “Battleships”, and as the Pilgrims set sail for the “Port of Sunderland”, the hosts have called on their fans to get “all hands on deck” as they continue their promotion push.

Sunderland currently sit third in the League One table on 65 points from 33 games, while second-placed Barnsley are on 67 points having played one game more, meaning the hunt for automatic promotion is still in the hands of Jack Ross and his troops.

The Wearside club posted a Twitter message about the upcoming fixture which included a graphic, and one particular aspect of this has got some fans very excited:

The poster features a version of Sunderland’s badge similar to their old one, which was changed over when the club moved from Roker Park to the Stadium of Light in 1997.
