Sunderland are said to be interested in signing Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield.
Sunderland have recently been linked with Burnley midfielder Scott Arfield (Chronicle), but their chances of signing the Scottish international may have actually been boosted had they kept David Moyes.
Sunderland are said to be eager to bring in Arfield, as they look to bolster their midfield options for the season ahead.
The Black Cats are aiming for an immediate promotion back to the Premier League, and Arfield’s graft has caught their eye.
However, the Burnley midfielder was a big advocate of Moyes.
And only back in March, Arfield spoke up in support of the former Manchester United manager.
“100 per cent they should stick with him,” Arfield said to the Sunderland Echo. “I really believe continuity is massive.
Burnley are proof of that. It is a weird sport we are in when managers are losing their jobs left right and centre.
“Maybe we can act as an example to teams like Sunderland. If they go down, what can happen if you stick with your manager, Sunderland is a huge club.”
Moyes, of course, decided to step down soon after Sunderland’s relegation to the Championship was confirmed.
Moyes opted against staying on, after the majority of the Stadium of Light crowd seemed to have turned on him.
If Arfield does join Sunderland, he is likely to be one of a number of additions which the Black Cats could make this summer.
